A busy and well-rounded schedule of activities, swimming, as well as many fun and exciting trips, await your child at camp! Our counselors are wonderful role models, creating meaningful and loving friendships with your child that can last a lifetime. Below are some of the highlights that your child will enjoy this summer. Field trips Trip days are two - three times a week for Adventure Camp, twice a week for the Pioneer Division, and once a week for Junior Division, which include indoor and outdoor amusement parks, boating, zoos, nature hiking, ice skating, museums, arcades, go-carting, mini golf, zip-lines, and more. These exciting adventures allow our children to really show their true spirit. (See camp trips for a list of trips planned.) All Pioneers go on one overnight (at no extra charge), and the Adventure Camp goes on four overnights (at no extra charge). Swimming and instruction Fair Lawn Jewish Day Camp is extremely proud of its aquatics program supervised by certified Red Cross lifeguards. The children of the Junior, Pioneer, and Adventure Camp divisions go swimming in an Olympic-sized outdoor pool a few times a week. The option of swim lessons can be added and your child will receive swim lessons by professional swim instructors. Swimming lessons are provided once a week, for all campers in the Junior division at no extra charge. (See pool for more info on our swim program and location.) Overnights Specially designed for older kids from grades 3 and up, overnights include 2 days and one night, with accommodations, all meals, snacks and drinks, and a very wide range of activities for tons of "away from home" camp fun. These overnights are included in the cost of tuition and no extra fees apply. Details and schedule of overnights will be posted in the trips page and camp calendar. Sports There are two parts to our sports program: The first is sports which is in the daily schedule of activities; all bunks will participate in daily sports. The second is sports instruction led by professional coaches. Children are taught warm up practices, skills and techniques, including hand-eye coordination, concentration, basic rules/strategy, and conditioning to advance their sports abilities. Our sports program benefits the physical, emotional, and social development of children. We help bring out the best in every child through individual attention, guidance, and encouragement. We encourage only “healthy” competition! Some of the sports we focus on are baseball, basketball, football, kickball, soccer, volleyball, hockey, gaga and tennis. Theme Days Themed days are so much fun and add a lot to camp spirit and excitement. Theme days include Israel day, International day, talent day, twin day, crazy hat day, crazy hair day, pajama day, auction day, scavenger hunts, comedy day, and so on... all themed days will be indicated in the camp calendar and instructions will be included in the weekly camp email. Creative Crafts Fair Lawn Jewish Day Camp's innovative arts and crafts teach the children to be creative and imaginative. The crafts incorporate various themes in Jewish life as well as fun and useful projects. Campers are sure to proudly look back at the craft of their own hands well after the summer is over. Challah Baking Each Friday children from all divisions spend time shaping Challah for Shabbat, the dough is then taken home by the children to bake and enjoy at Shabbat Dinner. We use egg free dough made in a nut free facility. Jewish Theme Every morning each division spends some time learning about a Jewish subject. Through stories, games, prizes, and competitions, children will learn about subjects like respect for elders and parents, charity, Israel, prayer, saying thank you, Shabbat, holidays, and more. Note: The purpose of Jewish theme is to educate children on Jewish subjects and not to force them into observance. The FLJDC staff are very sensitive to this subject when teaching the material. Feel free to contact us to discuss this matter further.
